Meet Janet

Dr Janet Woollard MLA became the Independent Member for Alfred Cove in 2001.  Janet comes from London and has lived in the Alfred Cove electorate for 30 years. She is married to Keith, who is a Cardiologist, and has six children and three grandchildren.

Janet has had a successful career in Nursing and Medical Research. She holds degrees in Nursing, Education, Medicine and Law. She is a Justice of the Peace and Patron of Parkinson’s WA.  

In 2008 Janet was selected to Chair the Parliamentary Health and Education Committee, which monitors legislation and conducts inquiries in the areas of Education, Training, Health and Mental Health.

As an Independent Janet works on behalf of her local community and   lobbies for improvements in State Government services. Her more recent achievements include:

  • Successfully introducing legislation to protect the general public, particularly children, from the harmful effects of smoking;
  • Obtaining commitment from the Government for the staged rebuilding of Applecross Senior High School;
  • Enhancing community safety through the installation of traffic lights along Canning Highway; and
  • Obtaining continued commitment from the State Government for facilities at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
  • Through her Parliamentary Committee work:
  • Obtaining funding for english tution for children of parents on 457 visas.
  • Improved funding of Child Development Services.
