Aircraft Noise Saga Continues

Release date:
19 Jan 2010

Independent Member for Alfred Cove has learned that noise from aircrafts flying over suburbs within the Alfred Cove Electorate continue to be a disturbance to constituents.

"I have received a new set of complaints in the last couple of months of increased aircraft and constituents have had their sleep disrupted as a result," said Dr Woollard.

"Constituents have observed increased aircraft noise between 8.30pm and 8.30am, although it seems more problematic in the early hours of the morning between 5 and 7 am.

"I have written once again to the Hon Anthony Albanese MP, who is the minister overseeing airport management, regarding these latest concerns over increased aircraft noise."

Dr Woollard said she received complaints regarding aircraft noise in April last year.

In response to Dr Woollard’s queries regarding the matter then, Minister Albanese said the increase in noise could not have been attributed to change in flight paths as there were no changes to flight paths over the Electorate.

"I have asked that the Minister review the matter again because the fact remains that constituents are noticing an increase in aircraft noise," said Dr Woollard.

Dr Woollard urges the community to lodge a formal complaint to the Noise Enquiry Service regarding their concerns by either:

a. Filling up an online complaint form at www.airservicesaustralia.com/ncm/;

b. Emailing a complaint to community.relations@airservicesaustralia.com;

c. Calling 1800 802 584 (free call) or 1300 302 240 (local call); or

d. Writing to the Service at PO Box 211, Mascot NSW 1460.

"I would also encourage the community to contact their Federal Member and Senator regarding this matter as the management of airports is the responsibility of the Federal Government," said Dr Woollard.

The Federal Member for Tangney is Dr Dennis Jensen, who can be contacted at 9354 9633. Senator Dr Chris Back can be contacted at 9328 3688.
