Independent Liberal Member for Alfred Cove Dr Janet Woollard congratulated Professor Warren Kerr of Mt Pleasant, Mr Arthur John Douglas of Alfred Cove and Mr Tony Misich of Melville on receiving awards within the Order of Australia on this year’s Australia Day.

“Professor Kerr’s appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) recognises his outstanding service to architecture, as well as his leadership in a range of professional organisations,” said Dr Woollard.

“As a specialist in the field of healthcare architecture, Professor Kerr is also being recognised for his vast contributions in the design of major health facilities.

“Professor Kerr is one of the three Directors of the Fiona Stanley Hospital Design Collaboration, the architectural consortium responsible for the planning and design of the new hospital,” said Dr Woollard.

“Apart from the Fiona Stanley Hospital, Professor Kerr is also involved in the redevelopment of Rockingham Kwinana District Hospital, the development of the business case for the proposed new Midland Hospital and the development for a master plan for Osborne Park Hospital.”

Dr Woollard said that Mr Arthur John Douglas received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his service to aviation as a pilot, instructor and contributor to a range of industry bodies and to the community.

“Mr Douglas’ nomination for the award was for the significant and active role he played in contributing to the development of not only the organisations that he has managed, but to the industry as a whole,” said Dr Woollard.

Dr Woollard said that this is not the first time Mr Douglas has been recognised for his contribution to the aviation industry. In 2001, the Australian Aviation Safety Foundation recognised Mr Douglas’ commitment to air safety, while courses he developed are being used around Australia. Both the Guild of Pilots and Navigators (1993) and the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (1989) have lauded Mr Douglas for his contribution to the industry.

Dr Woollard also extended her congratulations to Mr Tony Misich of Melville, who was awarded the OAM for his service to education, particularly through the development and implementation of initiatives in primary schools and the WA and Australian Primary Principals’ Associations.

“It is an honour to have such outstanding individuals as part of the Alfred Cove community.

“They have been selfless in donating their time and effort for the benefit of the wider community.

“I join their family, friends and colleagues in congratulating them on their achievements and on having their fine contributions acknowledged,” said Dr Woollard.

The AM and OAM are part of the General Division of the Order of Australia which recognises service to nation or humanity. More on these awards and recognition can be found at www.itsanhonour.gov.au/honours/our_honours/index.cfm.
