Independent Member for Alfred Cove Dr Janet Woollard is calling on the community to be involved in shaping West Australian’s Mental Health Policy and Strategy by participating in an online survey which will run until 10 July.
“The survey is part of the Department of Health’s Mental Health Division’s review of the adequacy of current mental health services and development of a new policy and strategic plan for Mental Health Services,” said Dr Woollard.
“Almost one in five Western Australians have experienced mental health illness and young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 had the highest prevalence of mental disorders.
“If you have or have had mental illness, or care for someone with mental illness, I would encourage you to access the online survey to voice your concerns and views regarding current mental health services.”
The online survey can be accessed at www.pwc.com/au/mentalhealthsurvey.
“Research[1] has shown that only 40% of Australians with mental illness report receiving treatment and of these, only half received treatment likely to help reduce the illness.
“I encourage people to participate in the survey to help ensure that future Mental Health services will be improved and that more people with mental health problems can access and receive appropriate treatment,” said Dr Woollard.
Further enquiries about the review and strategic planning process can be made by sending an email to mentalhealthsurvey@au.pwc.com or by calling the Mental Health Division on 9222 4099.
