Independent Liberal Member for Alfred Cove Dr Janet Woollard welcomed news that Booragoon Primary School is to be connected to deep sewerage following ongoing problems with its leaking septic tanks.

“This is a wonderful achievement for the school and the local community who have been pushing for a long time to have the school connected to deep sewerage,” said Dr Woollard.

“The old leaking septic tanks have been a problem for many years with young children having to be evacuated to other classrooms because the smell is so bad. Parents have been refusing to allow their children to remain at school under these conditions.”

“I am pleased that the Education Minister took up my invitation to visit the school with me last week to see the situation for herself and that as a result, she has taken steps to rectify the problem immediately.”

Dr Woollard said she had written to the Premier Colin Barnett guaranteeing her support to provide stability and to vote with the Government on Appropriation and Supply Bills and motions of No Confidence unless there is evidence of fraud, misappropriation or illegal activities.

“In return, I expect the Government to act on other issues that need fixing within the Electorate of Alfred Cove, including numerous problems at other local schools, a lack of police and resources, issues with local road safety and the Canning Bridge Train Station, and access to underground power to name just a few,” said Dr Woollard.

“Connecting Booragoon Primary School to deep sewerage is the first of many issues that I hope to see addressed. I believe Alfred Cove has been neglected by successive Governments and it is time that situation was reversed.”
