Independent Member for Alfred Cove Dr Janet Woollard is welcoming the award of grants to improve cycling infrastructure within the electorate and to address graffiti vandalism within the community.
“The electorate has received two grants totalling $99 250 to facilitate the upgrade of over 1km of shared paths located on Canning Beach Road and at Waylen Bay Reserve,” said Dr Woollard.
“The grants will enable the community to enjoy activities such as cycling, walking, or jogging on the paths that will be upgraded, as part of a healthy lifestyle.”
“In addition to these lifestyle gains, I encourage the community to reap the environmental benefits of cycling as a green alternative to driving a car.”
Dr Woollard is also in support of the awarding of grants under the Graffiti Fund program.
“As these grants are available to not-for-profit organisations as well as Local Government Authorities, I encourage all eligible applicants to apply for a grant,” said Dr Woollard.
“This is an important initiative to help reduce the incidence of graffiti vandalism within the community, by providing financial support to projects targeting graffiti.”
“Applicants can apply for funding up to $20 000 for each application.”
“Applications are now being accepted for the next round of grants, with applications closing at 12 noon on Friday 5 February 2010,” said Dr Woollard.
Before applying for a grant, potential applicants are strongly advised to discuss their grant funding options with a staff member from the Grants Department on 9222 9089 or the Graffiti Department on 9222 8735 at the Office of Crime Prevention.
Application forms are available from the Office of Crime Prevention’s website http://www.crimeprevention.wa.gov.au/content.php?page=Graffiti%20Funding or from Dr Woollard’s Electorate Office.
