Essential foreshore restoration works in the Swan Canning Riverpark will be completed in the City of Melville thanks to a $229,295 grant from the State Government, Alfred Cove MLA Dr Janet Woollard said today.
“The State Government announced $912,761 for 12 priority local projects in total to address erosion control, revegetation, weed control, riverwall repair and preparation of foreshore management plans,” Dr Woollard said.
“Of this funding, $229,295 will go towards the implementation of foreshore stabilisation works as recommended in the Point Walter Concept Plan.”
Dr Woollard said this project was another example of the State Government working closely with local government, along with environmental and foreshore protection groups, to ensure our rivers and shorelines were preserved for generations to come.
“I am pleased that restoration works will take place in the Swan Canning Riverpark, which has become a big part of Perth’s lifestyle,” she said.
“We should be doing everything we can to ensure the Riverpark’s environment is conserved and managed so that we can continue to enjoy it well into the future.
“The works will be undertaken through partnership arrangements with local and State Government agencies and the Swan River Trust’s Riverbank Program.
“Foreshore protection and rehabilitation is integral to the Trust’s work and this funding will boost the capacity of land managers to significantly improve shoreline condition.”
Nearly $8million has been distributed across 162 projects since 2002.
Combined with partner contributions, this results in nearly $16million of works.
