Independent Liberal Member for Alfred Cove Dr Janet Woollard presented Applecross Junior Football Club (AJFC) with a cheque for $13,468, which represented a grant received through the State Government’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF). The cheque was presented at the AJFC’s annual Family Fun and Registration Day held on Sunday, 22 February 2009, at Gairloch Reserve in Applecross.
“The CSRFF grant was provided to help upgrade power supply and install two floodlights at Gairloch Reserve, home of the AJFC,” said Dr Woollard.
Dr Woollard said that the CSRFF, a program by the Department for Sport and Recreation, provides financial assistance community groups and local government authorities to improve or develop sporting and recreational infrastructure. The program aims to enhance participation in sports and recreation.
“Established in 1952, the AJFC is one of the oldest junior football clubs in the area and has the reputation of being one of the best junior footy clubs.
“The club has been instrumental in the character building and personal development of hundreds of boys and girls as they learn about teamwork and sportsmanship while learning how to play Australian Rules Football.”
“I am pleased that a club of such standing in the community has been provided the opportunity to continue their excellent work,” said Dr Woollard.
"The club is very grateful for the financial support it has received from the State Government, City of Melville, club sponsors and members to enable these training lights to be installed. The lights provide us with much greater flexibility to tie our training activities with the needs and availability of coaches, players and their families,” said Paul Moss, President of AJFC.
Dr Woollard said that there are various funding programs available from the Department of Sport and Recreation for community and sporting groups. More information can be found at http://www.dsr.wa.gov.au/index.php?id=88. More information about AJFC can be found at http://www.ajfclub.com/.
