Independent Liberal Member for Alfred Cove, Dr Janet Woollard, calls on partners, sons and brothers to thank the women in their lives on International Women’s Day on 8 March 2009.

“Women make enormous contributions to the family and society at large and International Women’s Day presents a great opportunity for them to be recognised and appreciated,” said Dr Woollard.

Dr Woollard said that the 2009 theme for WA’s official International Women’s Day event Sharing and Caring for the Future encapsulates how women play a leading role in caring for the family, community and society in their multiple roles. “

As homemakers, women care for the needs of their family and those who also work outside the home contribute to the well-being of our economy. In addition, women actively volunteer in community organisations, sporting groups, schools and local governments, just to name a few,” said Dr Woollard.

“I hope members of the Alfred Cove community will spoil the women in their lives as a show of appreciation and recognition they deserve this Sunday, 8 March.

“If you missed Mother’s Day or any birthdays last year, this is an excellent opportunity to make up for it.”

“I wish all women a happy International Women’s Day and urge them to continue their excellent work and contribution to the community,” said Dr Woollard.
