Independent Member for Alfred Cove Dr Janet Woollard was informed by concerned community members of a suspected brothel in the suburb of Melville.
"This suspected brothel is right in the middle of a residential area and is causing considerable distress to families living near it," said Dr Woollard.
"Men have been seen entering the property with their wallets visible. "Cars have been seen parked on the road outside and near the property at odd hours of the day and night."
Dr Woollard said it is not known when the suspected brothel began operating, but the property was sold a couple of months ago.
"This would be the third brothel within a three-kilometre radius in the Alfred Cove Electorate that I have been notified about in the last six months," said Dr Woollard.
"Residents living in neighbouring properties have informed me they do not want such a business operating near their homes."
Dr Woollard said the objective of the City of Melville’s Home Occupation Relative to Sexual Services Business Policy is the "...prohibition of Sexual Services Business from operating within the home."
"I have notified the City of Melville’s Chief Executive Officer, the two local ward councillors and the local police. I have asked for their assistance to have the business closed," said Dr Woollard.
