Independent Liberal Member for Alfred Cove Dr Janet Woollard reminds all constituents in the Alfred Cove electorate to cast their vote in the Daylight Savings Referendum on Saturday, 16 May 2009.
The prescribed question for the Referendum is:
Are you in favour of daylight saving being introduced in Western Australia by standard time in the State being advanced one hour from the last Sunday in October 2009 until the last Sunday in March 2010 and in similar fashion for each following year.
“The referendum is the best opportunity to have your views heard about Daylight Savings,” said Dr Woollard.
“Constituents are encouraged to reflect on their own experiences with Daylight Savings during the three-year trial and cast their vote on how they think their lives would be affected if it is permanently implemented,” said Dr Woollard.
Polling places within the Electorate will be opened from 8 am to 6 pm on 16 May. If constituents are unable to attend a polling place on 16 May because of work commitments or if they will not be in WA, they can choose to cast an early vote in person or apply for a postal vote. Details of these are outlined in Annex 1 & 2.
“Voting in the Referendum, as with the State and Federal Elections, is compulsory,” said Dr Woollard.
More information on the Daylight Savings Referendum can be found on the Western Australian Electoral Commission website www.waec.wa.gov.au. Constituents may also ring the office on 9316 1377 should they have further queries.
