Independent Member for Alfred Cove Dr Janet Woollard will be submitting comments on behalf of community members to the City of Melville in relation to Jacs’ Pizzeria’s application to be turned into a small bar.
Dr Woollard said she is making the submission because members of the community believe that the village in Applecross is best suited for small shops, cafes and restaurants.
“Community members do not want a bar of any kind within residential areas in the suburb,” said Dr Woollard.
“A bar would not suit the area and could negatively impact its amenity.
“Extensive research has shown that increasing the number of outlets serving or selling liquor leads to an increase in the health and social problems associated with alcohol.
“There are enough opportunities already in the village and elsewhere in Applecross to purchase and consume alcohol.”
Dr Woollard said she was made aware of Jacs’ application to the City of Melville for Planning Approval for a proposal to change its use from a restaurant to a small bar last week.
“Those wishing to submit their comments must do so to the City of Melville by 7 April,” said Dr Woollard.
Submissions must be made in writing to:
