Independent Member for Alfred Cove, Dr Janet Woollard MLA, is happy that plans to install a public toilet at Applecross Village are finally making progress.
“I have lobbied the City of Melville for over 4 years to build public toilets in the Village, including presenting the City with petitions from the local community,” Dr Woollard said.
“The City of Melville has listened to the community’s concerns regarding the location and design of the toilet, and has come up with a design that is more community friendly than previous presentations.”
Dr Woollard said the City is proposing that the toilet be built in an area near the sewerage connections to decrease the cost associated with the installation. The proposal is for the toilet to be built next to the pavement outside Couture Drycleaning, at the northern end of the Village opposite Dr Woollard’s office. A display board will be installed soon, which will feature a letter to the public about the proposal, a plan showing where the toilet will be installed, and a photo mock-up of the design.
“The public toilet will be a welcome inclusion in the Village, not only for the local community, but for visitors who are frequently asking business owners if they can use their toilets.”
A questionnaire will be available at the Applecross Village Newsagency, Deli Chicchi, Cioccolato Espresso and Dr Woollard’s office. The questionnaire asks whether people support the installation of the public toilet similar to that on the display board.
“I would urge anyone who uses Applecross Village to have a look at the display board and to provide feedback to the City of Melville,” Dr Woollard said.
