Save the Children Book Sale

Release date:
15 Jun 2010

Independent Member for Alfred Cove Dr Janet Woollard is calling for donations of second-hand books, CDs, DVDs and sheet music for the Save the Children Book Sale.

"The second hand items can be dropped off at the Save the Children storage facility at 22 Darnell Avenue Mt Pleasant on Monday mornings from 9 am to 12 noon" said Dr Woollard.

"Donations can also be dropped off at my Electorate Office at Suite 1, 30 Ardross Street, Applecross between 9 am to 4 pm from Mondays to Fridays.

"Each year the South of the River Branch of Save the Children organise the book sale as their main fundraising event."

"In 2009 the sale was exceptionally successful with a record $37,000 being raised."

"With the help of the community’s generosity, I hope this year’s sale will be even more successful.

"Funds raised at the book sale are used to help under-privileged children in Australia and abroad," said Dr Woollard.

"For instance some of the funds raised assist children overseas by helping them gain access to an education".

"I encourage the community to donate their second-hand items as soon as possible and to attend the sale themselves," said Dr Woollard.

Dr Woollard said this year’s sale is to take place from 23 to 28 September at the Cannington Exhibition Centre situated on the corner of Albany Highway and Station Street in Cannington.

School textbooks, Reader’s Digest condensed books, encyclopaedias and weekly magazines are not suitable for donation.
