Independent Member for Alfred Cove, Dr Janet Woollard MLA, is pleased that the Minister for Transport has approved black spot funding for the installation of traffic lights at the intersection of Hislop Road and Canning Highway, Attadale in early 2010.
“As this intersection has been marked as a black spot since 2000, I am very happy that the Minister for Transport, the Hon Simon O’Brien MLC, has given the green light for these traffic signals,” said Dr Woollard.
“I have fully supported community members who have been calling for traffic lights to be installed at this intersection for the last few years, as they are long overdue.”
Dr Woollard believes that the traffic lights will not only improve people’s safety when they cross this busy section of Canning Highway, but will reduce the number of motor vehicle accidents at the intersection.
“In the past 10 years, there have been over 30 accidents at this site, one of the most serious being a fatality in 2007, when a motorcyclist collided with a car making a right-hand turn,” said Dr Woollard.
“The Minister has advised me that he is looking forward to working with the City of Melville in addressing this very important safety issue.”
The City of Melville applied for over $600,000 worth of black spot funding this financial year, for projects in Attadale, Bull Creek and Bateman. They are currently planning their submissions for projects to be done in 2010-2011.
