Underground Power for Attadale North

Independent Member for Alfred Cove Dr Janet Woollard is pleased to inform that homes and businesses in Attadale North will be connected with underground power.

“Attadale North was recommended to replace Balcatta which had withdrawn from Round 4 of the State Underground Power Program,” said Dr Woollard.

“This means the entire suburb of Attadale will eventually benefit from the advantages of underground power as work connecting Attadale South is currently progressing.”

Dr Woollard said the outcome for Attadale North follows extensive lobbying of the State Government by herself and the residents living in the area.

“I have pressed the case, to both Liberal and Labor State Governments, for underground power connection in my Electorate since I was first elected in 2001,” said Dr Woollard.

“In this case, I wrote to the Minister for Energy, Hon Peter Collier MLC, as soon as I learned Balcatta had withdrawn to ask that due consideration is given to selecting Attadale North and other suburbs still without underground power in my Electorate as replacement.

“Residents living north of Wichmann Road in Attadale will be delighted as they missed out on being selected for rounds 4 and 5 of the Program.”

Dr Woollard said more than 6,500 homes in the suburbs of Alfred Cove, Booragoon, Melville, Palmyra and parts of Ardross and Bicton are still without underground power.

“Residents in these suburbs will have to continue to deal with electricity reliability issues and safety concerns from rotting poles or fallen power lines,” said Dr Woollard.

“The longer it takes, the more residents would have to pay for underground power due to growing costs of materials and labour.

“I will keep on lobbying for the State Government to extend the Program and increase its funding so more suburbs could be connected to underground power.”
