In light of the recent storm last Monday, Independent Member for Alfred Cove Dr Janet Woollard is providing the community with useful tips that might be helpful in the event of future storms.
"I encourage residents experiencing a power outage to report the fault to Western Power on 13 13 51," said Dr Woollard.
"Residents can also call my Electorate Office on 9316 1377, and providing that we have power, we will access the Western Power website for information on estimated restoration times."
"If members of the community see fallen powerlines, I strongly advise that they do not touch them as they could be live. Such incidents of major damage should be reported to Western Power on 13 13 51."
"The Fire & Emergency Services Authority has storm safety tips available on their website," said Dr Woollard.
"These storm safety tips include preparing an Emergency Kit with items such as a portable radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit, and preparing a relocation plan in case your home becomes flooded."
Dr Woollard said "It is also important to check that you have adequate home and contents insurance."
"During a storm, residents should close their curtains and blinds and stay inside away from windows. If there is lightning, FESA advises that electrical appliances be unplugged and to refrain from using landline telephones," said Dr Woollard.
"In the event of a storm, if your home has been badly damaged and you need help, call the SES on 132 500."
Residents are encouraged to visit the Fire & Emergency Services Authority’s website on www.fesa.wa.gov.au/internet/default.aspx?MenuID=49 to view a comprehensive list of storm safety tips.
